Hello! My name is Lauren Siegers, and I am from Holland, Michigan. I grew up with my older brother, two younger sisters, and many pets. Growing up on Lake Michigan, I love getting outside, going to the beach, and all water activities. I was on a sailing team in high school and spent my Saturdays traveling and racing with my team. I have made many memories and learned many lessons through sailing. Now that I have graduated and am no longer on the sailing team, I spend summers teaching kids how to sail. The sailing center I coach at offers classes for students from as young as five to 17 years old. I primarily teach the middle school-aged students, but I love playing poison dart frog and duck-duck-goose with the younger classes.

In addition to loving the water, I love horses. My family had horses in our backyard when I was growing up, which sparked my passion for the gentle giants. For several reasons, we sold our horses. Lucky for me, my dad said that if any of us kids seemed to have a passion for them, we would get them again. When I was twelve, we bought an adorable but naughty pony named Dexter and a sweet horse named Molly. Now, I have a horse named Peanut, who I love endlessly. Peanut has been highly challenging, but I have learned the most lessons from her. For example, I have learned a lot about patience and gentleness. Peanut can be pretty anxious, so I have to take her training slowly and be very gentle with her.

In the winter I enjoy going skiing with my family. Everyone in my family skis, and we spend most Sunday nights racing each other down the hills. We mainly ski at the resorts close to us in Michigan, but we have made a few trips to Colorado. We have been to Keystone, Beaver Creek, and Breckenridge for those who enjoy skiing or snowboarding in Colorado. We usually go somewhere warm for our vacations, but I loved going somewhere we could ski.

As you have probably noticed, I love doing things outdoors. In addition to sailing, horseback riding, and skiing, I love hiking, biking, sand volleyball, playing frisbee and Spikeball, and hammocking. Nature is a beautiful gift from God, and I try to embrace it every season. I am excited to see more of God’s magnificent creation as I take a gap year traveling with the World Race!

Not only do I love God’s creation, but I love God. In my sophomore year of high school, I started on a project to handwrite the entire Bible. This has greatly influenced my beliefs and created a passion for pursuing truth through Scripture. We live in a world of opinion, but I want to look to God’s Word to help me determine what is true and correct. I am excited to pursue Biblical truth with my team and build community with them. Everyone has had their own unique experiences, giving them a different perspective. I am so excited to hear new perspectives and learn from the rest of my team as we do the Race.
